Sports Beat - June 2021

Let’s all give it up, one more time, for the Belleville Tigers 2020-21 Football team! Coached by the legendary Jermain Crowell, our beloved Tigers remained ranked in the top 5 all year, finishing the regular season 6-0. The team excelled in the playoffs going 4-1, led by quarterback Christian Dhue-Reid and defensive star Damon Payne, earning a berth in the semifinals where another remarkable run came to its end at the hands of the nefarious West Bloomfield Lakers, 35-34 in 2 OT’s.

“I’m so proud of the resiliency of this group of student-athletes,” says Joseph Brodie, Athletic Director of Belleville HS, “The on-again off-again, start and stop season they had with 3 times per week covid testing thrown into the mix were enough to make anyone want to just say we were done.  They wanted to finish the season and were willing to do whatever it took.  I tip my hat to the kids, the coaches, the administrators, and everyone else that made the season work. We’re now excited to get back to some normal summer activities and roll into the 2021-22 season ready to go!”
