Arts Beat - June 2021

New York City has its famous colorful cows, London has fun statues of elephants and lions, and now Belleville, Michigan, too, will present its epic art offering — the Belleville Bass.

Ten four-foot-tall largemouth bass statues have been commissioned by the Belleville Area Council for the Arts (BACA) and will be painted in unique colors by local artists, then placed on display at select Belleville and Van Buren Township locations. The fish are intended to add to the local atmosphere and serve as a reminder that Belleville boasts the one-and-only inland lake in Wayne County. The Belleville Bass are designed to be interactive via scavenger hunts and as locations in popular geo-games like Pokemon Go.

The Belleville Bass statues will be unveiled by BACA Thurs June 24, 8pm, at Music Lakeside.

As Meghan Trainor likes to say, “I’m all about that Bass.” Here at the Beat, we couldn’t agree more.

Also of note this June, the first annual Belleville Lake Fest will present a hand-picked, high-quality Artisan Market featuring the likes of Gnomes That Need Homes, Basketry by Debbie and Lady Wood Goods.
